Image Nation 2017

About

Image Nation is a collaborative project that documents events surrounding Imagine RIT to be showcased on a website. The website features short documentaries that highlight selected exhibitions, and the preparations exhibitors make before the festival. Photographers and editors work side by side on the day of, to capture the spirit of the hardworking exhibitors as well as the families who attend the festival.

Image Nation was started as a project to use the various visual communication skills of the RIT photojournalism program to cover the Imagine RIT festival. Image Nation replicates a newsroom, with student editors and photographers working together to live update the website with engaging content on the festival. In previous years the project has been informally organized by the RIT photojournalism faculty, but for 2017 Emily Hunt, Daniel Vasta, Joey Ressler, and myself have taken charge of organizing and expanding the project.

Changes include: scheduling of photographers and editors to specific shifts and locations, assigning photographers to editors, including video, a pre-event meeting to clarify any questions, and making the editing a space an exhibit for festival goers to learn and ask questions about RIT Photojournalism.
